Do note that I have not worked with Automate yet and have not seen anything about it yet.
As our company is slowly doing more with Linux I was wondering if it would be possible to install node-red as a docker container and then install Automate on top of that?
In the future this would greatly help to switch to a completely Linux based solution, would the company want to go that route. I do understand that certain services will still need to be run on Windows and are Windows only.
Good to hear! Bit of a late reply but… We are working hard towards the official release of OL Connect Automate. One of our main items remaining is a WinQueue input and we are adding some extra options to our installer (like setting Environment Variables).
As you discovered there is an official Docker Container for Node-RED and the current versions of our nodes are published on npm. This means you can install them through the Node-RED Palette Manager (or via the command line). We are exploring creating an OL Connect Automate container.
I’m running OL Connect Automate on my Windows PC (installed using the OLCA installer) and next to that I’m running various containers using Docker Desktop (current OLCA nodes, bleeding edge, special projects etc). All are working with the same OL Connect Server on my local machine.
Thank you Erik. This is my first dip into the Node-Red pool and I really like it so far. Of course there is a lot to learn so I will just get started and see where things end. I will try to minimize questions as I think most will be Node-Red only and there are plenty of resources for that online.
