Simplex/Duplex issues

Hi We are producing mailers for customers that can either be single sided or double sided.
Each side is in their own section and the customer can send in a selector FRONT1\BACK1 but they can also send in FRONT1\BLANK

where blank means they want no back

we have each front and back in its own section and these are being selected as expected. However we are having trouble doing the Duplexing.

In the Sheet configuration we have each section set to Simplex but when it gets to one with a back we want to turn Duplexing on for that record but can’t get this to work. Each file from the customer can have a mix of 1 page and 2 page documents.

Just a bit more info on this so what I want to do is as following in our record we have for example 4 records being ordered.

The records would be as follows.

Record 1 Duplex using Front1 & Back 1

Record 2: Duplex using Front1 & Back2

Record 3: Simplex with Front1

Record4: Duplex using Front2 & Back1

We want to avoid adding an extra page to the Simplex ones and just Duplexing all as this adds an extra page charge on our printers even though nothing is printed on the back?

Hello @timj1980 , the solution I can think of so quickly is to do a separation on Documents and to use a Control script such as the below one to dynamically apply duplex/simplex and front/back.

Control script

let sheetConfig = merge.context.sections["Section 1"].sheetConfig,
	group = record.fields.Group;

if (group == "A") {
	sheetConfig.duplex = true;
	sheetConfig.omitEmptyBackside = false;
	sheetConfig.positions.all.masterFront = "Front1";
	sheetConfig.positions.all.masterBack = "Back1";
} else if (group == "B") {
	sheetConfig.duplex = true;
	sheetConfig.omitEmptyBackside = false;
	sheetConfig.positions.all.masterFront = "Front1";
	sheetConfig.positions.all.masterBack = "Back2";
} else if (group == "C") {
	sheetConfig.duplex = false;
	sheetConfig.positions.all.masterFront = "Front1";
} else if (group == "D") {
	sheetConfig.duplex = true;
	sheetConfig.omitEmptyBackside = false;
	sheetConfig.positions.all.masterFront = "Front2";
	sheetConfig.positions.all.masterBack = "Back1";
} else {
	// Do something else...
}
