Roll Printing: Keeping Records Intact in 2-Lane Cut-and-Stack Imposition

I’m preparing A4 output for roll printing and using Impose in OL Connect Professional (2024.2).

The job runs through an enveloper with a sheet cutter, so I need a 2-lane cut-and-stack setup where each record stays intact.

Current issue:

Impose distributes pages of a record across the imposed sheet, which breaks the required sequence.

What I need:

  • keep all pages of each record together
  • avoid splitting a record across the two lanes
  • ensure the total number of records is even (needed for 2-lane cut-and-stack)
  • handle dynamic sheet counts per record
  • support both simplex and duplex records (mix of both in the same job)
  • include additional data per record (IDs, counters, etc.)
  • include additional data per imposed sheet (sheet numbering, marks, metadata)

Is there a recommended way in Connect/Impose to maintain intact records in a mixed simplex/duplex setup with variable sheet counts, while also adding both record-level and sheet-level data — without relying on heavy scripting?

Edit: Maybe I got the wrong initial information about the requirements. I’m checking whether the pages must remain in strict sequence or only need to stay grouped as a set. It could actually work more like this: the web is split down the middle, each half is trimmed on the outer side, and then both halves are brought back together in the center so that the pages end up stacked in the correct order on top of each other.

If anyone knows exactly how this process works in general for web-to-sheet cutter setups with an inserter, I’d really appreciate the clarification.

Thanks Tobi
