PP7-based templates are running dramatically slower (24hrs vs. 5-6hrs) in Connect Workflow vs. PlanetPress Production.
Is this a known issue? Is Connect Workflow optimized for Connect in a way that adversely affects PP7 and/or ppalambic? We are using Create PDF and that’s the plugin that seems to be dramatically slower.
I’ll eventually re-develop all the templates in Connect Design but for at least a few months they’ll still need to run the legacy templates and the performance hit is a major issue.
Most of the slowdown occurs during PDF creation. For those operations with PP7 templates, Connect uses the latest libraries from DataLogics (DL maintains Adobe’s code base), while PPSuite is using very old DataLogics libraries… And like most software applications, newer libraries run noticeably more slowly on comparable hardware than older versions.
We raised the issue with DataLogics a while back but have yet to receive any commitment on their part to improve the speed (or to just get it back to what it was before). We unfortunately cannot go back to using older DL libraries because they have fixed a number of issues over the years and Workflow now depends on these fixes to run smoothly.
OL Connect itself is not impacted because the Output engine does not rely on the same libraries as Workflow.
Not the answer you were hoping for, I imagine, but our hands are a bit tied in this situation.
It’s good to have a definitive answer, even if it isn’t a “good” one. Points to the need to get the client fully onto Connect and gives us clear direction on which jobs should be converted first!
