Scenario:
We receive notice request throughout the day and … [stage 1] Create Print Context, Job, Output, set ContentItems status in Connect DB, and Archive output them into Laserfiche. Afterwards any of these could be reviewed by QC and rejected (changing ContentItems status in Connect DB [stage 2]). At the end of the day we collect (Retrieve Items Plugin) all Content Items not Rejected … we create Job and then Create Output. This final PDF with multiple documents then goes to the print vendor.
This print vendor looks for “hidden” white text on the first page of each document for validation. PDF creation is done today with PlanetPress Suite 7 (I think). Anyway, We are replacing the PP7 process with the above Connect process.
The print vendor is having trouble locating this “hidden” text created from the output preset additional text content.
Below is my setup…
Using ctrl-a to select all text …
The Hidden text from the output preset is between the red arrows.
The other highlighted hidden text is generated during STAGE 1 (Create Print Context). When you copy all the selected text and paste to a text editor the text string in question seems to be located sequentially at the end of the page …
And if you try to just select the TEXT by dragging your mouse (Not ctrl-a) … It doesn’t seem to find it…
But if you throw the PDF back into a Datamapper … it finds the text at that position …
I did see that when you add images as additional content, there was a “layer” setting… but not for text.
I am not really sure how PDFs are put together. Feels like there are different layers. If someone could enlighten me that would be great; or point me to an applicable resource.
My dilemma: Ideally, the print vendor should not have to change their validation process in place for the PDFs we are generating with PlanetPress Suite 7 (PTK files and Digital Action plugin). I hoped we could recreate the same output using the Connect plugins. And I believe I am using Connect as designed (in order to put document and total page counts on the final commingled PDF).
Any suggestions or insight?
