Migrating from Pres to Pres Connect

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone here has migrated out of Pres & Pres Automate into Pres Connect.

We are pretty heavy users of Pres & Automate and I’m running though the a trial of Pres Connect.

We run a fair portion of our business automation using Pres Automate and script a large % of our print jobs in the Pres IDE.

Has anyone had experience doing this sort of migration? And was it everything you expected?

I’ve previously used Planet Pres workflow, which Pres Connect Workflow seems to be and having spent the last few days running some testing it doesn’t seem as well implemented as Pres Automate in it’s functionality and easy of use.

Thanks in advanced

Michael

Hi,

We “migrated” from PReS to Connect few years ago and I can say that you can forget any migration of existing applications to Connect designer. All you can do is to create workflow in Connect that will trigger PReS PDC files that will do their job.
We eventually started creating new applications in Connect, but kept using old apps in PReS. If old apps need some major update we create them from scratch in Connect, but for minor changes we just update PReS app and continue using them.

We didn’t use PReS Automate so I can’t help you with that.

Hi darkovuj

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I kind of expected having to rewrite our scripts eventually. That’s probably going to be the easy bit as we’ve generally only used Pres to produce print output. Replicating our process’ from Pres Automate is my concern as we run pretty much all of our automation though it. We transfer files, merge, split & sort data, run Postage barcoding, call web api’s, write data summaries. Looking at workflow demo for the last few days it’s looking like a lot of the functionality from Pres Automate isn’t replicated in Pres Workflow.

If you didn’t use Automate how were you running your PDC’s?

Cheers
