Job and Outputpresets

We have updatet to the latest version of the designer (2023.1.0.15090) and one of the mayor changes is this >>> “You can save Print Presets anywhere you want. As of version 2023.1 Print Presets are no longer automatically stored in OL Connect’s workspace.”

Don’t know if this is the right place for a little feetback, but hopefully there will be a way back to the old way:

  • because the full path name is now in the dropdown list and our templates are in different places on the server, it becomes a very confusing list of presets.

  • I don’t see the option to remove presets from this dropdown list? (I can remove the preset from the directory, but it will still be in the dropdown list). EDIT> this takes a while before it is removed from the list.

  • and one last thing about the presets (and this one has been on my to-ask-list for some time  > why do both job and output presets say Last Used Setting instead of just the náme of that setting? We use so many settings per day, I don’t always remember which was the last one.

I would prefer to have the previous settings for presets back. So, automatically stored in one place. That worked very well for us. This update brings a lot of extra server surfing.

Hi Rolf,
Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback, it’s very much appreciated.

hopefully there will be a way back to the old way

We don’t intend to bring back the old way that the interface worked, but we do want to keep improving on what we have now.

because the full path name is now in the dropdown list and our templates are in different places on the server, it becomes a very confusing list of presets.

Showing the full path is intended to allow you to see the difference between presets with the same name in different locations. We can see if there is a different solution for that. (Note: if you use the project feature in the Designer, the path shown in the dropdown will be relative to the current project, for presets in that project.)

I don’t see the option to remove presets from this dropdown list?

It shows recently used presets. I am not sure how much we can tweak those dropdowns, so I am not sure if we can give users direct control over the presets that are shown. It makes sense to automatically remove presets that are no longer present, though.

why do both job and output presets say Last Used Setting instead of just the náme of that setting?

That’s something we are looking to change. The Last Used Settings are mainly useful in cases where you are changing settings through the Advanced button, these can be different from your saved presets and this allows you to re-use those. But I agree, if you haven’t made changes, you would want to just see the name of the preset you last used.

I would prefer to have the previous settings for presets back. So, automatically stored in one place.

You should be able to store them in one place by choosing your own folder and always use that. To easily find that location, you can pin it under quick access in the Windows file explorer. If you decide to try this, it would be great to know if it works well for you.
But if I understand you correctly, it would help you if saving a preset would always default to the last location where you saved one, and the same for opening a preset. We can look into that, but we will have to consider some other ways of working with presets as well, so I am not sure if we can easily combine these in a good way.

Thanks, i’m sure we found our way, my first impression on the presets was a bit contra intuitive compared to the previous versions. I will try your suggestions (pin quick access in the Windows file explorer).

Rest of the update really ok, really appreciate the standard line break suffix, never have to type br again

First said: I like the benefits of the new way (storing the job specific presets in the job folder).

@RolfVermolen is there a possibility to change the default presets path that was chosen at the installation?
We also have the problem that some of our customers don`t remember the path they have chosen. Is there a way to find out where that default path is?

The default path is important for general presets.

Just made a sneakpeak at the new version (looking further into it next week) and see that Last Used Settings is tackled now, how nice! And after a few months i can say i like the new way (storing the presest in a particulair folder). Keep up the good work!
