I'm beginng to believe this software sucks!

Came back from vacation and tried to do the updates to 2024.1 using the update manager and the install crashed after uninstalling my current versions and I had to start from scratch. Installed the 2023.2 version but now connect messenger won’t install so I can’t do anything!!!

Need assistance ASAP.

Hi,
Given the severity of the issue, I’d recommend raising a support ticket via the Customer Portal, or by sending an email to ol_support@uplandsoftware.com

On some occassions the Messenger not being able to be installed is due to disk space. Connect needs at least 20GB free in order to successfully install, and if there is not enough free space then Messenger seems to fail.

There are log files under C:\ProgramData\Objectif Lune\Installation Logs and C:\ProgramData\Objectif Lune\PlanetPress Workflow 8\Installation Logs which might shed some light on the cause.

Best Regards

Justin Leigh

I was able to finally get messenger to install by finding the installer in a temp folder.

This isn’t isolated. On my last 3-4 updates, Messenger always fails to install. I have to first install, then do a “repair installation” to get a successful installation.

Have you check if your Anti-Virus isn’t the cause?

In my time at support, I have seen many scenarios where the Messenger.exe was being blocked by a over agressive AV.

I had the same problem. The problem is coming from the Workflow installer.

I solved it to uninstall all OL software manually in the following order:

  • Uninstall Messenger
  • Uninstall LincPDF
  • Uninstall Update Manager
  • Uninstall Workflow
  • Uninstall PlanetPress

If you don’t use this order, it is possible you are unable to uninstall some parts, and you need to use the software cleanup tool that Upland can provide or install the old version and start over again.

Then first install and this is important OL Connect Server. This one successfully install Messenger. After that you install Workflow, because messenger is already installed the workflow installer ignores the messenger installer.

Upgraded 3 systems this month this way and no problems.

ps. i NEVER use the update Manager. This give me more problems then doing it manually.

Hope this helps.

I’ll check this, but since Messenger does install when I do a “repair”, the AV scenario seems unlikely.
