Font names in Designer and output PDF

Hi guys,

I’m looking for some enlightenment regarding font handling in PlanetPress.

When using an embedded font in the Designer, the resulting PDF seems to display a random, base64-like string as the font name. However, if the font is installed on the operating system, the actual font name appears correctly in the PDF.

My question is: why does embedding the font via the Designer result in a random-looking name, rather than showing the proper font name in the output PDF?

The reason I’m asking is that some of our clients require us to use specific fonts in their artwork, particularly when adding dynamic or variable text to their documents. But when we embed the font through the Designer’s fonts folder, the output doesn’t show the correct font name — just that base64-like identifier. Sometimes we get question like what font name is that? And we try to come up with some technical jargon to to deter the client from asking further questions, etc..

Thank you very much in advance.

Cheers,
James.

Hello James,

This is a known issue. The Gecko browser engine used by the Connect Designer renames the embedded fonts to synthetic names. I understand that this issue does not seem to occur in the Connect Designer which incorporates the Chromium browser engine and which is currently in Early Access. (94021)

Thanks @Marten, I eagerly awaiting for the final chromium version of planetpress.

Hello @james123456,

Hereby I will have to inform you that the issue is not fixed in the Connect Designer which incorporates the Chromium browser engine.

I undestand that, so far, the issue does not occur when using TrueType fonts.

Not loading the fonts from the template or remotely but installing them on the machine itself can also be concidered as a workaround for this issue.
