Is there a way to extract the information the I have defined in the output creation / Print definition / Tray mapping settings to then be used in the workflow, I cant seem to see this info when I have tried it using Metadata.
For example that Media letterhead uses Tray 1 and Media Orderform uses Tray 3
The output preset file has an XML structure from which information can be extracted; however not quite sure how this will help. Perhaps if you explain what the end goal is, we can suggest ways to achieve it; for example you could add this information (input tray and media details, etc) in their own separate fields in the Datamapper. The information will then be available in the workflow after the Execute Data Mapping step with the “Output records in Metadata” option selected.
Thanks for your reply, We are using a printer definition for a B4000 Fiery controller, When the output is sent to the hold queue the trays selection etc. is not showing on the controllers screen, although it prints to the correct trays and Simplex/Duplex printing is correct. It would be nice to get this info so we can send it to the print operator (by email or print) to give an indication of which media needs to go into which tray for each job.
I would insert that information either in the incoming data file or in the Data mapper as trying to get this from the output preset file may have an impact on overall processing time.
If the information is in the data or datamapper, it can then subsequently be used to create an Email Context.
Can someone expand on this with an example of how to place the media settings into the data model? In my case, one record will produce a variable page count document, and that document will use several media types. I’m trying to do some accounting, and provide back total page counts per media type (how many “yellow” pages, how many “pink” pages, how many “white” pages for the job).
