Cannot sort metadata. Field: '_vger_fld_SortOrder' is not numeric in item 0

I’m getting this error when using the Metadata Sorter task with the Numeric sorting (which is required) checkbox ticked

Cannot sort metadata. Field: ‘_vger_fld_SortOrder’ is not numeric in item 0

The field indicated only contains numeric values, so I’m unsure why this is happening?

Please disregard my question, I found the answer. In my Excel Lookup I had and action to add a field rather than replace!

I am receiving this error now, if I take off numeric sorting in metadata sorter it runs ok, but then it doesn’t sort it correctly. Any ideas why this isn’t working?

Hi @marrd,

Are you sure that all the available SortOrder fields does have a numeric value? Because I’m able to reproduce the reported error message when:

  • I assign a string value to the SortOrder field, for example: “Hello World!”
  • And when I assign no value to the SortOrder field at all

The error message I got:

[0005] W3001 : Error while executing plugin: Cannot sort metadata. Field: "SortOrder" is not numeric in item 0

Hi Marten

There is 105 records in total and I have looked at the metadata of each record and I can confirm that all values are numeric and that none of them are null.

I should mention that I’m assigning the value to the SortOrder field using the excel lookup method

I have done it this way in the past without a problem

Hi @marrd,

I suppose that at this point it will probably be better to open a technical support ticket via our website because I assume that we need to have a look at the Excel lookup.
