Can I use input PDFs as variable backgrounds?

I will be receiving PDFs that I do not need to extract data from but just need to print, possibly with barcodes to control an envelope inserter. I am aware that I can set a PDF as a background in a print context, however is it possible to dynamically select the PDFs that I will be receiving as inputs rather than extracting data from these PDF?

I did this in Planet Press 7 a few times so was wondering if the same functionality is available in Connect?

hi Doug,

Yes you can. You will need a Datamapper designed around the PDF input data. No need to extract anything unless there is something on the page that you need such as a Invoice number to create a barcode. Dont forget to also set you page boundries in the PDF as this will help Connect know where the start and end of each document is.

Once this has been completed create a Print Template and then right click on the Section 1 Select >Background

In the PDF dropdown box select From PDF Datamapper Input and click OK… See below.
