Can a PAGE be made conditional?

I have a duplex job, with several print sections. There are 6 possible cover letters (2, 4, and 6 page versions), and up to three possible forms (representing past and current year tax forms), each 2-page.

Setting things up in Sections and enabling the proper section(s) through a Control Script, or in 1.8, the “Make Conditional” option for Sections, works fine.

Except in one case, there is a second output, separating by document, and omitting the cover pages and (critically), the second page of the form itself.

If I put the front and the back of the form into different sections, I can set a condition to omit the second (back) page of the form, however, by having them in separate print sections, Duplexing doesn’t work because EACH SECTION assume it is self-contained and so will generate a blank back page.

What I really need is the ability to make a PAGE conditional, OR a way to make the entire job Duplex rather than individual print sections.

To help you properly we would need to see the Template and reproduce the issue. I suggest you open a technical support call at 1-866-348-5863 or through our website.

I can’t share the template: it’s protected information.

This is easy to reproduce. Create two separate print sections, one page each. Now try to output this job as DUPLEX, a single sheet per document, Print Section 1 on the front and Print Section 2 on the back. I cannot figure out how to do this. I always get a 4-page document: Section 1, Blank Page, Section 2, Blank Page.

Second test: instead, have a single, two-page print section (use a 2-page PDF as the background, for example). Now, suppress the output of Page 2 based on a data field value. I cannot figure out how to do this, either.

As hamelj pointed out, it would be best to see the template. However, you may find this option of some use in the case where you have a section per page.

  • Check Omit empty back side for Last or Single sheet to reset a page to Simplex if it has an empty back side. Thus changing a Duplex job into a Mixplex job may reduce volume printing costs as omitted back sides aren’t included in the number of printed pages.

This must be a 1.8 feature. I don’t see it in 1.7. I’ll try this in my 1.8 VM. Thanks for the link!

That’s correct, it’s new in 1.8.

No… this makes the job mixplex, which means the “Duplex with blank back omitted” sections output as simplex with blank backs. This is the problem I’m trying to avoid.

So, back to my original question(s): can a PAGE (within a Section) be made conditional?

Or, can two separate print sections duplex TOGETHER. Actually, I want a job-level Duplex setting, to set duplex for the entire job, across all enabled print sections.
