Will PlanetPress Connect coexist with PlanetPress v7

I’m a reseller and have PlanetPress v7 installed on my Windows 7 (64 bit) laptop with 4 GB of ram. I need to have PlanetPress v7 available to support my clients, but would like to start learning PlanetPress Connect.

  • Will PlanetPress Connect coexist with PlanetPress v7
  • Will Workflow 8 coexist with PlanetPress v7
  • Can I even install PlanetPress Connect or Workflow 8 on this system with only 4 GB of RAM

Connect should install just fine as it’s a brand new component. Regarding Workflow here’s what I was able to find in the release notes:

http://download.objectiflune.com/Connect/Version_01/ReleaseNotes/PlanetPress/1.0.0/ReleaseNotes.pdf

PlanetPress® Workflow 8 can be installed in parallel on the same machine as an existing PlanetPress® Suite 7.x installation. Note however:

  • If both versions need to be hosted on the same machine, PlanetPress® Workflow 8 should always be installed after the legacy PlanetPress® Suite 7.x installation.
  • When uninstalling PlanetPress® Workflow 8, you may be prompted to repair your legacy PlanetPress® Suite 7.x installation.

And

  • If PlanetPress® Workflow 8 has been installed alongside PlanetPress® Workflow 7, Capture can no longer be used with Workflow 7. The plugins are now registered uniquely to Workflow 8 and the messenger for Workflow 7 is taken offline. It is only then possible to use Capture from PlanetPress® Workflow 8.

Not sure on the RAM side but I imagine it will install just fine, but run slowly if you’re under the 8 GB recommended.

Hope this helps.

Even though the 4 GB of RAM are probably (emphasize on probably) sufficient to launch the application, I would not recommend that you attempt running Connect with so little RAM. The application will appear sluggish and you will be limited in what you can achieve, even if it’s only for learning purposes. Not to mention that - as a long time PPSuite user - you will naturally be tempted to make comparisons with the previous versions of our products; so if you run Connect with a sub-par system, it will end up on the bad side of the equation… and it certainly doesn’t deserve that!
