Do you mean it takes 6 to 25 seconds to process a job, or to just send the template throught the “Package files” options? Processing times, obviously, will depend not only on the computer speeds but also on network speeds and disk read/write speeds.
However, it’s important to note that Hyper-V virtualization is not supported by PlanetPress Connect yet. In fact “Official” support for any virtual environment is currently pending.
I was talking about processing a job. So one XML comes in and it takes 20 seconds to come out of my label printer. the task print content is taking up a lot of time so i thought maybe my designs could be tweaked.
The server is placed in a datacenter which has 100mbit up and down. The job file is around 30kb when it’s send to the printer. CPU’s are not having any trouble and the disks used are SAS 10K RPM over fiber (SAN storage).
There are two things you could do that may help us better understand the issue:
Send the exact same job 3 or 4 times in a row and make a note of the time it takes to complete each job. If there’s a significant difference between the time they take, then we’re likely dealing with a resource/network issue (although I must say your hardware seems to be more than adequate). If there isn’t, then your infrastructure can at the very least be deemed stable and we can focus on the next point, below
Send jobs with an increasing number of records (say: 1, 2, 4, 8) and see if the production time seems to be directly related to the number of records (i.e. linear increase). If it is, then we can focus on optimizing your layout. If it isn’t, then we’ll have to investigate further.
When initially sending the job one time it will take 6 to 25 seconds, times are very random. If i do the same label (document) with an XML splitter (20x records) it takes anywhere from 6 to 25 seconds to load my design document and print the first document and the remaining 19 prints it takes around 3 to 3.5 seconds.
