The PP Connect installation requirements (Installation and Activation doc) differ slightly from those in the PP Suite 7.6.1 Release Notes

For example,

  • Windows 2012 R2 is not listed as supported for PP Connect
  • PP Suite specifically excludes Windows 8 and Windows 2012 as being supported (8.1 and 2012 R2 are)
    • So, is PP Connect supported on Windows 2012 R2?
  • PP Connect requires only 10GB whereas PP Suite requires 20GB
    • I understand additional storage for data and temporary files are needed, but is there are reason why these install requirements are so different?
  • No mention of PP Connect being supported on a Virtual Server (WMware or Hyper-V)
    • Has PP Connect been formally tested in a virtual environment?

Hello Ron,

Since PlanetPress® Connect is a completely different software built from the ground up in a different language, it is natural that the system requirements and supported environments be different.

The official PlanetPress® Connect System Requirements are located here:

The PlanetPress Suite 7.6 System Requirements are here:

As far as I know, these are the official, up to date, valid requirements so if a system is not listed in these pages… it’s not supported.

One small note however, we’ve been using Connect on VMWare since its very first version, but I’m not sure that we have an “official” support. Perhaps someone with more authority can confirm this.

A couple small things on the Connect requirements page:

“Microsoft Windows 2008 Server R2 (32-bit and 64 bit) (also R2)”

One of the "R2"s probably needs removed.

“Microsoft Windows 2012 Server (32-bit and 64 bit)”

I believe 2012 is only available as 64 bit.
