Paste In Place, Group Elements, and Select All

Hi,

How can I copy elements from one page (page 1) in Designer and paste in place to another page (page 2)?

This is easily possible in InDesign but in designer it only seems to paste back into the same page.

While I am at it… Can anyone tell me if I can group positioned boxes like I used to be able to do in the old PP7?

And one last thing, when I press CONTROL+A, everything gets selected on all the pages of the Designer document. I only want to select all on the page I am on. How do I do this?

Any help with the above is appreciated.

Copy and paste
The easiest way is to select the item you wish to copy from the Outline tab

  1. Right-click on the item and select Copy
  2. Double-click on the section you wish to copy to item to and right-click on the canvas, then select Paste (or CTRL-V from your keyboard)

Grouping as in PP7
Unfortunately, that is not a feature found in the Connect software. Can you explain what you are trying to achieve other than moving many items as a group? Maybe we can give you workaround.

CTRL-A
It depends where you focus is. If it is on the canvas (the graphical page) then all on it will be selected. If your focus is on the Resources tab, everything on it will be selected.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the tips hamelj.

Unfortunately, none of what you have sugegsted has worked for me.

Could this be due to the fact that my template is a PDF-based Print template with 16 pages?

The PDF in question is 16pp and it makes up the base artwork of the booklet. I am trying to replicate some common elements such as images and text boxes, (whose content is required to be variable) these are placed in various pages of the 16 pages but always at exaclty the same position of the page. Hence the desire to copy and ‘paste in place’

The only way I can do it at the moment is copy one at a time the required elements on the page (because CTRL-A doesn’t work), then paste into the same page and change the anchor number in the html one by one.

The ability to group text boxes and images just tends to make creating the layout much easier.

Perhaps I should make it known, I am using PReS Connect Designer, not Planet Press Designer. Don’t know if this makes any difference in the behavior I am experiencing… I posted under Planet Press because it seems to get more posts.

To help you properly we would need to see the Template and reproduce the issue. I suggest you open a technical support ticket through our website.

How can I provide you with the template?
I have opened a tech support ticket, but with PReS Connect, not Planet Press Connect. I have enclosed you name (hamelj) in the description.

I am not at support but a technician will contact you and help you with it. Remember that ticket opened through our website can have up to (but usually not) 4 hours before first contact.
