MS C++ redistributable on windows 11

Hi guys,

I just wanted to raise this to anyone who can help resolve this.
Not sure any you get this issue. It seems that its becoming more of an issue after a windows update.

The issue is when there is a new windows update, Planetpress Designer fails to start. Its only after installing the MS C++ redistributable that it works again. The last time I mentioned this to support, they said it was a conflict of the old version of the ms C++ redistributable which connect is bundled with.

The error log I can provide is from the event viewer

Faulting application name: Designer.exe, version: 2025.1.1.0, time stamp: 0x669ec979

Not sure where we got with this.

Kind regards,
James.

@james123456, don’t get me wrong but may we know what the question is?

I’m afraid that the latter isn’t entirely true. Because the version installed with Connect in the latest releases is – As of November 2025 at least – Microsoft Visual C++ 14.42.34436 and not, as present in the error, 14.13.26020.

Hi @Marten,

Appologies for the delay.

Like I said, when we have a windows update, PP connect does not launch afterwards. Even if we restart our PCs. The only resolution is to download the latest MS redistributable at the time it is (Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64) - 14.51.3623.) then it works.
It could be a coincidence after the windows updates, a cached version still lingers behind and PP connect tries to use it instead of the new one. This also happend to one of my collegue and the only resolve was to reinstall MS redistributable. Has this been reported from other users? Are there any plans to fix this?

Kind regards,
James.

I can confirm this has happened to our Designer after windows updates multiple times, and your method to fix it is exactly what works for me too!
