I’ve complained that I have never had an error-free install of Connect. The latest, 2019.2 on Windows 10, is “hanging up” (the install screen, after prompting for all the various passwords, goes grey). Closing the program, this error pops up. I’ve seen it several times on past installs, and would like to know what it means and if it can be resolved:
As per usual, I had to run the OLConnectInstallationRemover.exe to get the Installer to not lock up, but at the end get “Provisioning Errors” and find these log entries:

We had this problem in the past (… -Duser.language… while installation). The solution was to add C:\Windows\System32\Wbem to environment variables / system PATH variable.
I can not find more details, but maybe that helps…
Thomas,
sorry to hear that.
I have involved our Build masters and they have provided some insight on these issues.
Rather that posting anything here, I think this one is best handled internally.
Please open a support ticket and I will have the guys investigate this issue.
Thanks
Cosimo
Thanks Cos, will do. Workflow installed fine this time, but Connect is the one that always seems to require a full uninstall, manually removing folders, etc. before I can get a clean install. I did manage it, so not sure what kind of testing can be done on my system in its current state, but I will open a ticket once I’m back in the office tomorrow.
Installing 2020.2 and the Connect piece (uninstall-reinstall) is taking a very long time. No errors, but it’s been over 5 hours and not to the install piece yet.
I’ve had issues with the last few versions where I had to manually uninstall and reinstall.
UomoDelGhiaccio,
It should not take that long to install.
Has it finally installed?
If you need assistance, please reach out to support and we will take a look.
Thanks
No it didn’t ever finish.
I had to manually remove Connect and then install.
In this instance it is DEV so does not matter much.
There would be more stress if it was PROD.
Would you happen to have a VM running under Hyper-V, by any chance?
Is Hyper-V a problem because 2020.2 has killed 3 of my servers in Hyper-V VMs during the MessengerService installation part…just times out and leaves a wake of destruction in its path meaning I have to manually clear everything down and install 2020.1 in its place which works fine.
We did receive reports that installation of 2020.2 may fail when installed in an Hyper-V guest. We are working hard to provide an updated installed that should solve the issue.
No, this was on a physical system
I get that message on my laptop and have been trying to get it resolved via OL support desk for months now. To say I am annoyed and fed up is an understatement. This is so frustrating and is delaying our upgrade project. Someone please help - happy to try anything. Will start with the environment variables suggestion from thomasweber
Can you confirm wherer the HyperV issue is fixed now? We’re starting to get a bit desperate.
Hi @puszczyk,
Can you please let us know what kind of issue you’re facing? Does an error occur when you try to install a specific version of PReS Connect or PlanetPress Connect on a Hyper-V VM environment?
Please note that the Release Notes of version 2021.1 of both PReS Connect and PlanetPress Connect does contain the following information:
Installer Improvements
[…]
- Fixed an installer issue that was preventing Connect from installing on Hyper-V (and some other virtual environments other than VMware). (SHARED-79918)
Same issue as jim3108 described. I’ll get a test box running and check.
