How to setup the Multi-Tray using Postscript?

Hi,

I tested the Multi-Tray using Postscript output.

I add the 3 Media and made 3 pages on the PP designer.

Sheet Configuration was setup such as “First Sheet => Media 1, Last Sheet => Media 3, Middle sheet(s) => Media 2”.

And then I made an output using Proof Print as below:

  • Model : Generic PS LEVEL 3 High Compression (DSC compliant)

  • Printer Settings

==> Tray Mapping

MediaTrayPositionWeightTypecolor
Media1dummy-1180Plainwhite
Media2dummy-22100Plaingreen
Media3dummy-23100Plainyellow
Question : What 's a dummy-1 and dummy-2 at the Tray? How to add the Tray except the dummy-1?

I setup the printer paper catalog tray setting such as " Tray1 => A4 80g plain white, Tray2 => A4 100g plain green, Tray3 => A4 100g plain yellow".

After making the output, I did print the using Ricoh Pro C5110S and Pro C751EX with Fiery server.

But I did print using only one of Tray.

Could you let me know how to setup the Multi-tray using Postscript at the Ricoh, Xerox and other printers?

In the Tray Mapping… the output to PS is

Tray name is not used…

Tray Position becomes MediaPosition

Weight becomes MediaWeight

Type becomes MediaType

Color becomes MediaColor.

a Blank entry is not used!

Some printer use Media Position as absolute and override other settings so delete the Position entry so you just have

weight, type and color…

This should work for most PS Printers.

this definitely works on Xerox Freeflow, KM native controllers, I believe Canon native Prisma Controllers ( those that follow the standard setpagedevice rules) , I am unsure about Ricoh…

With these setting if you use a Fiery Rip you need to use SPD mapping.

May I please confirm if this solution proposed by @weinhandlh is still considered correct in Planet Press Connect?

We’re using an enterprise grade printer with 5 trays, and we need to ensure that tray selection is automatically selecting other available trays when the paper runs out.

I set the media name, this media name matches a media name in the output preset, and in that we match the media name to a specific tray of the printer. There does not appear to be support to select multiple trays, or hand type a tray name.

I was previously told by phone that there was a way to separate the trays using a semi-colon character, but I cannot recall the specifics. Is this tray selection done through the output preset media → custom script, or via the Template → Section → Sheet Configuration → Media → Custom Script ?
