I’m new to using Designer and I have a question - when I preview a print to PDF in the advanced settings my fonts are retained but when I print the full file my barcode font is not showing up correctly. I have a screenshot below - the image on the left is the preview from the advanced settings, the image on the right is the final pdf:
I’m wondering if there’s something I’m missing in the Print Wizard PDF Options Settings. (I would post a screenshot of that too, but as a new user I can only post one photo).
Have you imported the TTF file directly into your template? It could be a licensing issue with the font software. Are you using Workflow to produce the final PDF? Is Workflow on a different machine than Connect, and if so, has the font been installed on the Workflow host machine?
Also, if you are producing the OneCode barcode used by the US Postal Service, that doesn’t require a special font. You should use the Numeric version of the barcode data and in Designer, select the Insert Barcode option. Designer build the barcode out of shapes, rather than using a Font to do the work.
Thank you for your prompt response - Workflow and Connect are on the same workstation, and I’m printing directly from Connect. I have the TTF file installed on the computer, but I would be happy to import to Connect since we use that font often - Are there directions I can look up on how to import TTF files to Connect directly?
I was using that font as that’s what we currently use in Adobe InDesign for merging for mailers, but I know PlanetPress will be faster, so I’m trying to figure everything out.
I tried to select the correct barcode first, but I couldn’t figure out how to get it to show correctly. I just tried again with OneCode, and it was unsuccessful.
The ability to create barcodes using geometry instead of specialized fonts is a core, and very helpful, feature of Connect!
But in case you ever need fonts to “ride along with” the template instead of being installed on the OS of one or more machines: just drag the file from the OS file system onto the “Fonts” folder of the template, and you’ll get an “always available” copy of the font embedded directly into the template.
Well that was an easy fix! I didn’t realize it was as easy as drop and dragging into the fonts folder.
I’m excited to learn more about the barcodes, but I’m glad to have a workaround for now as a newbie. I’m loving all of the versatility and capabilities of Planet Press, time to read more how tos.
For other users who would end-up with similar problem, I ran into it and my way of fixing it was to install the font by right-clicking on it and select Install for all users. Then I rebooted my workstation and the problem was gone.
