Fiery Media Calls

I see a couple of threads here about Fiery controllers ignoring Media Calls, and I’m having the same issue. I haven’t seen a published solution. I understand that we need to configure the Fiery to respect “SPD” (setpagedevice) commands, and map the media.

However, if we have Portrait and Landscape print sections in a template that both use the same Media, Connect emits, in the DSC, two media types: what’s used in the Template and Output Preset, and a spurious “DMW_MEDIA_2”. Even when we configure the Fiery to use SPD, it fails because “DMW_MEDIA_2” isn’t something in our standard media maps.

What is the trick to get Connect to emit PS, with media calls and mixed orientation, to the Fiery controllers? Without using a PPD, as the print plant has multiple devices and we wish to stay device-independent.

Personally in these scenarios I always end up with the PPD configuration as it allows you to map the medias and set the automatic orientation detection. Just a few minutes ago I actually did just that on a customer’s Fiery. I don’t believe it’s possible to do this on the Fiery without a PPD-based printerdef.

Anyone feel free to share your solution if you achieve generic media mapping on a Fiery
