Error When Printing To New Windows Printer From PlanetPress Connect Designer

When I add a new printer in Windows Server 2012 R2, I’m unable to print to it directly from PlanetPress Connect Designer and receive the following error message:

“LoggedApplicationException: There was an error running the output creation process caused by Can not use output Destination: Exception: Can not use output Destination: Windows Printer : (P) (SRV000114) (SRV000114)”

If I restart the print spooler, I no longer get the error message for that printer, but, any new printers I add since the print spooler reset will not work unless the print spooler is reset again.

Example

-Add “PrinterA” to Windows

-Print to “PrinterA” in PlanetPress Connect Designer via Print Wizard using Output Type “Windows Printer”

-Error message appears.

-Restart print spooler

-Print to “PrinterA” in PlanetPress Connect Designer via Print Wizard using Output Type “Windows Printer”

-Page prints without error

-Add “PrinterB” to Windows

-Print to “PrinterB” in PlanetPress Connect Designer via Print Wizard using Output Type “Windows Printer”

-Error message appears

If I select the checkbox for “Output Local” in the Output Options section, I receive a error message "Error: Windows Printer : (P)

Seems there’s a sort of restriction in place to access this printer, because the error SRV000114 points to a permission issue. I got the same error code a while ago with printing a PDF to a shared drive.

Is that a shared network printer maybe? That would explain the error with the “Output Local” option as well.

I checked, not a shared network printer. Strange thing is, now restarting the print spooler is not working, I still receive the error message.

I tried installing via Windows Print Management Console, Devices and Printers, and PowerShell, but, the error is still present.

I am able to print to the new printer from Workflow 8, just not from Designer 1.7 directly.

I’ve opened a ticket with ObjectIf Lune support to look into further.

One workaround found when the error message appears is to complete the following:

  1. Select the issue printer in the printer drop down list (select only, do not print).

  1. Select a different printer in the printer drop down list (select only, do not print).

  1. Re-select the issue printer in the printer drop down list and conduct printing.

Doing this seems to clear some issue in the backend and allows printing to proceed.
